What Does a BESS Finance & Investment Do?
Finance and investment professionals in the BESS industry structure, underwrite, and execute the transactions that bring battery storage projects to life. From project finance and tax equity to M&A and infrastructure fund management, these roles sit at the nexus of clean energy policy, financial engineering, and operational due diligence.
The IRA has dramatically expanded the investable BESS universe — standalone storage is now ITC-eligible, and the resulting wave of development has created strong demand for professionals who understand both the financial and technical dimensions of these assets. BESS finance requires understanding how batteries degrade, how they generate revenue across multiple market products, and how risk is allocated between developers, lenders, tax equity investors, and offtakers.
Roles range from analyst-level project finance at developers or banks to senior investment roles at infrastructure funds, asset managers, and private equity firms with energy storage mandates.
