What Does a BESS Field Technician Do?
BESS Field Technicians are the skilled tradespeople who keep battery energy storage systems operating safely and reliably in the field. They perform preventive maintenance, respond to alarms and faults, execute corrective maintenance, and conduct performance inspections on utility-scale and commercial battery storage systems.
The role requires a combination of electrical knowledge, comfort working with high-voltage DC systems, familiarity with BMS and SCADA interfaces, and strong safety discipline. BESS Field Technicians often work alone or in small crews at remote sites, requiring self-sufficiency and excellent troubleshooting skills.
As the installed base of BESS systems across the US grows rapidly, the demand for qualified field technicians has far outpaced supply. Technicians with BESS-specific experience — particularly those familiar with LFP systems and major OEM platforms — command strong wages and have exceptional job security.
